Chief Financial Officer and EVP, Mike Coons, joined the team in 2008 as the Vice President of Business Development. Mike has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Management Information Systems and an MBA from Shippensburg University. Through his leadership and innovation, the team continued to grow and be successful.
In January of 2020, Coons was promoted to President where he currently oversees the direction and growth of the Business Development and Service Delivery teams.
Not but three months into his presidency, Coons had to face a very uncertain and challenging business environment. The COVID-19 pandemic was unyielding and relentless and GDC was faced with the same difficult decisions many other companies faced. With tenacity and perseverance, Coons helped GDC weather the storm and come out on the other side.
In a recent interview, Coons discusses the numerous opportunities GDC gave him to grow as a professional, businessman, and leader. Coons says, “The number one opportunity GDC gave me was allowing me to get experience in multiple areas of the business. And this is throughout my entire career, not just my current position. I would not have had that experience with other, larger companies.”
Coons continuously discussed how important and valuable a desire to learn is to a young professional. He believes an education does not stop in the classroom. That a successful professional should have the desire to learn more facets of business than the one in which they are trained. In fact, that’s the very advice he would give himself if he could go back in time. Stay hungry for knowledge, learn as much as you can.
GDC’s Founding Partner, Gregory D. Courtney congratulated Coons on reaching this milestone. Courtney said, “Mike has become a key member of the executive leadership team over his 15 years with GDC. We thank him for helping us grow into the company we are today and are grateful for his many contributions. As he looks towards his future with GDC, Coons says, “We have an ambitious business strategy. It will be imperative to continually attract and hire talented team members that deliver positive customer outcomes and satisfaction.”
He looks forward to a bright future with GDC. Here’s to the last 15 years with Mike, and we are looking forward to the next 15 years.
